You are an important part of our community and can help make a difference for the Port Washington Historical Society by volunteering any time or talent you have to share. We appreciate it all.
We have volunteer opportunities for teens, adults, corporations and organizations in just about every capacity – from restoration and preservation to archives and collections; from education and visitor services to marketing, fund raising and special events; and from programming and exhibits to general office and administration work. volunteer AT the 1860 light station
We give tours every weekend from Memorial Day through mid-October.
As a docent, you interact with the people visiting the Light Station, and give them a tour of the main building (the lighthouse proper). Docents are given the choice of giving tours of the entire 1st and 2nd floor and lantern room of the building, or just doing the 1st floor tour with another guide taking over the 2nd floor and tower portion of the tour.
Our current needs require someone either Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
volunteer AT THE resource center
There are numerous ways for you to assist at the Resource Center. Basic office hours for the Resource Center are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-4 p.m. On those days the office hums with the activities of many who are either filing, clipping or sorting historical documents and artifacts that have found their way into our office.
We can always use more hands to help with this work. We also need help with proofing, folding and mailing our Quarterly Newsletter as well as special event info.
